I consider myself more than a massage therapist. I consider myself a "Touch" therapist. Human touch is one of the greatest things there is and I believe that it has healing properties. True therapeutic touch can ease the burdened mind and soothe the stressed body. And under the right conditions and with the right practitioner these effects are cumulative and long lasting. I have been fortunate--and humbled-- to witness an increase in the overall wellbeing of my clients over time. I use a unique combination of techniques to first calm you and then ultimately help you release all tension in your body and spirit, thus returning you to a place of balance and warmth. In order to achieve this superior result, I make sure that I massage the muscle in its entirety: from the origin to the insertion.
My sessions are characterized by an unmatched commitment to your relaxation. Therefore, our time together will not be hurried or unnecessarily compressed. Sessions last the full time of the appointment. At Bodywork By Sonja you won't book for an hour and get 50 minutes.
I have been a resident of Northern Virginia since 2000. Although I love it here I do spend quite a bit of time in various parts of the great Southwest. I am a college educated professional (summa cum laude). Prior to entering the massage profession I was a licensed social worker.
After having received my first massage I felt really drawn to the profession. While wanting to remain in the helping profession I entered massage school and never looked back.
I believe in a healthy body and soul. Consequently, my main hobby is fitness and nutrition. I love to practice yoga, and I am an avid runner known to log upwards of 20 miles a week. I have also discovered bodybuilding and martial arts (freestyle) through my husband.
With my body as my instrument, my high level of training and physical fitness allows me to provide a superior massage.
